Babcock International Group PLC is engaged in a complex asset management business. It manages fixed infrastructure and mobile assets across six segments:

1. Marine representing the UK’s leading naval support business and having a unique role supporting the Royal Navy and the Ministry of Defence undertaking a range of asset maintenance, refit and decommissioning activities
2. Defence Services provides facilities management, equipment support and training services to the armed forces as well as airport baggage handling services at London Heathrow
3. Rail focuses on multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure work
4. Nuclear provides outage and maintenance support for current power generation and operate in the decommissioning and waste management markets
5. Networks provides services in industries which include mobile and fixed-line telecoms, broadcasting, leisure and power transmission
6. Engineering and Plant Services supplies design, installation and maintenance support to the energy sector in Africa and the United States.

When Mactavish first became involved with Babcock there were areas where they were looking to improve their current insurance programme, including:

• Increased competition on lines of business which were previously deemed difficult to place
• Integration of substantial acquisitions into the existing insurance programme
• Increased understanding by key insurers of certain aspects of the business
• Improved and less volatile pricing, which more accurately reflected the group’s risk profile
